The concept of Legends Darts competitions was first introduced at an Australian Championships meeting in Kangaroo Island SA in 1998. WA’s well known dart player, Don Reynolds was instrumental in providing and promoting a competition for dart players over the age of 45 years for the purpose of fostering fellowship and friendship whilst playing a game of darts. The original idea being that “Legends” would be rolled out Australia wide to enable states to compete against each other over a weeklong competition once a year in divisions based on players skill level.

Australian Darts Legends Inc held its first AGM at the first National Competition in Victoria 1999 with NSW, Victoria, WA all attending. Since 2000 National Championships have been played once a year between all participating states.

In WA meetings were initially held one Sunday a month at the Coolbellup Hotel. Dart players around the state embraced this new concept very quickly and from these humble beginnings we now have a community of over 500 players. Legends clubs have been formed East, North and Central Perth, Southwest, Mandurah, Fremantle and Goldfields. Each club sets its own calendar and plays at their own venue once a month.

State events between clubs are organised every year and are very well attended. Dart Legends WA has also hosted National Competitions every three years since 2005 and the 2023 National Championships were held in Bunbury with approximately 450 players competing over the week long competition.
